Hi !
When I install my printer HP Desk Jet 5550 on a LPT1:, then Vista (build 5384) install driver 'hp deskjet 5550 series (HPA)' and display Message: "Unable to Install Printer. Operation could not be completed." When I install this Printer on a LPT1: as a 'Generic / Text Only', then is ok. When I install this Printer from a CD driver (HP), then this printer no work, printing not.
I thing, that I must have the new driver, but in HP Internet Page is no new driver for Vista.
Help me.

Vista and HP 5550
Try first going into the Device Manager and doing a roll-back of the driver for the printer. If that doesn't work, you can simply reinstall your printer on your other computer that you aren't using to test an unstable operating system.

Install the 5550 MANUALLY. Do not use the H.P. CD ! Set it up manually via Hardware Wizard and " alias " it as an H.P.Model 990C. This is a known " fix " and it works. I am using a 5550, both on Vista as a 990C and on Win2K3Server 64Bit as a 990C. Simple solution - good luck ..... John

If you installed Vista x64 then there may not be a device driver for it for Vista. There is an XP Pro x64 driver on the HP website so you might try it.
